As the inevitable outcome of combining the virtual rea1ity technique with coordinate measuring technique,the virtual coordinate measuring machine is the need for developing the virtual manufacture technology. This paper proposes a new developing orientation of 3D CMM-virtual coordinate measuring machine (VCMM), introduces the system structure and basic function of theVCMM and the necessary software and hardware environment for the simulation of VCMM.
